How are the partner families selected?
Families apply to our local Habitat affiliate by completing an application. Habitat accepts applications only two months out of each year, usually March through April. A family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program, and their ability to repay the loan. Every project follows a non-discriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families to receive Habitat homes.

• Willingness to Partner

Also, families understand that it is a Partnership with Habitat for Humanity, not a give away program. Families partner by working 500 sweat equity hours, 400 construction and 100 nurturing.

Thank you for your interest in the Habitat for Humanity Program here in Jackson. The basic criteria required before an application can be considered must include the following:
 

• Applicant must have a minimum income of $1,300.00 per month
  
• Applicant must have been in place of employment for one (1) year
  
• Applicant must have lived in Jackson for one (1) year
  
• Applicant must understand that they will enter into a partnership with Habitat for Humanity and must work 500 sweat equity hours

The following forms that must be completed and returned with your application:

• Verification of Rent
  
• Verification of Employment
  
• References form to be completed by three (3) non-family members
  
• Verification of Public Assistance from your Social Service Administrator
  
• Information for Government Monitoring

In addition to the completed application, please include the following personal material:

• Final Divorce Decree or Marital Dissolution;
  
• Signed and dated tax return from the last two (2) tax years;
  
• Most Recent Pay Stub (within the past 30 days);
  
• Verification of Prior Employment, if applicable;
  
• Verification of Deposit or 2 months most recent Bank Statement
